The minimum square feet for stairs is 30’ SF (basic stairs) if this is an architectural feature in your store, you should consider doubling this number.
Basic Stairs compliance:
- 36” minimum for width for 50 or fewer occupants
- If higher the 12’ needs a landing.
- Landing 48” width (straight run)
- Preferably at 9’
- Needs a handrail on both sides (not as important for this project)
- The raiser for commercial stairs between 4”- 7” max
- The tread 11” minimum
